Our Team

Founded in 1963, International Christian University Football Club (ICUFC) is a club with a long and proud history. ICU is a relatively small university, with fewer than 700 students in each entering class, and does not offer athletic scholarships or sports-based admission programs for football players. Nevertheless, through the dedication and achievements of generations of players, the club has continued to grow and develop.

In the 2026 season, ICUFC finished fifth in the Tokyo-Kanagawa Third Division League, recording nine wins, three draws, and two losses. The team fell just short of promotion, ending the season with a sense of disappointment. On a more positive note, January 2026 marked a historic milestone for the club, as goalkeeper Yudai Murata transferred to Kochi United SC (J3 League), becoming the first player from ICUFC to become a professional J.League player.

Our goal for the 2027 season is to win the Third Division title and secure promotion to the Second Division. Our team slogan for this year is “Yusho” (雄翔), which conveys the idea of soaring forward with strength and determination. The slogan also carries a wordplay element, as its pronunciation resembles the Japanese word for “victory” (優勝). Through this slogan, we express our ambition to rise from the Third Division and take a major step forward. Every member of the team remains fully committed to achieving this goal.

However, winning matches is not our only objective.

In keeping with ICU’s founding principles and educational philosophy, we place great importance on internationalism and diversity. Many of our players have spent significant portions of their lives abroad, and we also welcome international students into our team.

In addition, we continue to support our local community by coaching elementary school football teams in Mitaka, striving to become a club that makes a positive contribution beyond the university.

Our alumni network is another source of pride. ICUFC graduates have gone on to make significant contributions in various fields, including business and academia, both in Japan and internationally. Among them is Hirotaka Takeuchi, a renowned management scholar and Chairman of the ICU Board of Trustees.

While staying true to our club’s values and unique identity, we are more determined than ever to achieve promotion this season. Every member of ICUFC is committed to approaching training and matches with dedication and determination.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support and encouragement.
